Fire Retardant Lumber & Plywood

For any commercial and residential projects, we offer both interior and exterior grade fire retardant lumber and plywood to help meet fire codes and regulations. Specifically, we work with our suppliers to provide Hoover Pyro-guard® and Exterior Fire-X®. Both have been thoroughly tested and certified to provide the safety and protection that would be required. The products are available in various sizes.

What is Hoover Pyro-Guard?

This is Hoover’s interior fire-treated product. It is intended to be installed in a dry or weather-protected environment.

What is Exterior Fire-X?

This is Hoover’s exterior fire-treated product. It can be installed in environments that will be exposed to the elements, without sacrificing the fire-treatment characteristics.

How does Fire treated lumber work?

Fire retardant lumber is pressure treated with a special chemical that helps to slow the burn rate of the lumber. Eventually the wood will completely burn without fire suppression, but it will take longer than untreated lumber.

Is fire treated lumber also treated with the normal pressure treatment?

Fire-treatment is done with the same process as pressure-treated wood. The chemicals that the lumber has been treated are different and serve a different purpose. Exterior Fire-X is not a substitute for pressure treated wood, but does provide some limited protections against rot and decay while maintaining the flame spread requirements that specs call for.
